Cognitive Assessment Clinic: specialist neurocognitive and complex psychological assessments
What We Do
At the Cognitive Assessment Clinic we conduct Neuropsychological Assessments (also known as Neurocognitive Assessments) as well as medico-legal assessments. Reports are provided to the patient and referrer and include useful and applicable recommendations.
Neuropsychological Assessment is the fine-grained assessment of brain-behaviour relationships, and typically incorporates standardized measurement of thinking skills such as: attention, learning, memory, language skills, visuo-spatial skills and planning, organization and problem-solving skills.
Additionally, assessment of a person’s history, mental status, personality and judgment are usually considered. Neuropsychological assessment is a specialist discipline that assists with diagnosis and treatment planning. Neuropsychological assessment findings are often used in conjunction with the findings of medical imaging (eg CT scan, MRI) to determine the nature of the underlying problem. The findings of neuropsychological assessment also clarify the degree of impact or impairment resulting from the problem.
Finally repeat neuropsychological assessment is often used to measure change in functioning over time. Neuropsychological assessments are conducted for clinical purposes, educational purposes and medico-legal purposes.
